I got mates in the army in Sydney and Townsville, they say it's shit as - people are wound up to tight, they've done tours of Timor and Afgan said both were shitty as except the money, they weren't allowed to do anything when on your etc. They all basically you say you get into the SF where they actually let you do stuff.
But they all plan on quitting after their time/contract is up.
I wouldnt bother applying for the ADFA unless you're a straight A student and a school captain.
I've gone through 3 assessment days, successfully completed my additional testing and was ready for my medical, when my 10th interviewer told me to come back in 12 months because my academic results aren't good ( 3 B's, 2 C's)
Apparently being in charge of numerous school shows / gigs doesn't count as leadership either.. and theyre really only looking for school captains.
Also, they told me I wasn't high up on the list because I only wanted to join the force this year. They said they look for the people with a family military past and people who have wanted to do their job since kids.
So as i said, if you're not a straight A student who is the school captain, and if you haven't been wanting a job in the army since you were 10, don't bother.
I will be talking to my case manager this week about further options, but I dont see myself going for one of the other officer jobs / sailor jobs ( my initial preference was a seaman officer)
